ActivitiesGet outside and GO PLAY! Recently, First Lady Michelle Obama announced a new national initiative to reduce childhood obesity rates through healthy eating and increased physical activity called “Let’s Move.” We applaud this effort and look forward to hearing more as the campaign takes shape over the coming months. In the meantime, we have a great tool of our own here in Kansas designed to get kids and their families outdoors and active. Developed originally for South Central Kansas (it will be statewide soon), goPLAYkansas can help users find parks, recreation and open spaces in their community and throughout the state. As educators, parents and care givers, we thought you would also enjoy some lesson plans that were developed to promote physical activities outside the school day. As the site expands, additional lesson plans and activities will be added along with tools to track, share and post comments and pictures from the activities you experience. We hope you find ways to share this site with parents, children and others in the community who have the same goal as we do – to get kids excited about being active!
